Crewed vs. Bareboat Yacht Charter—Find the Perfect Fit for Your Group's Next Adventure
Choosing between crewed and bareboat yacht charters depends on service preference, group experience, and budget. Pruva Yachts & Gulets breaks down the options so you can pick the best charter for your group.
What Is a Crewed Yacht Charter?
- Professional crew on board: captain, chef, and host
- Crew handles navigation, cooking, cleaning, itinerary
- Ideal for groups wanting maximum relaxation
- Customized experiences—private dining, guided visits, watersports
- Perfect for families, corporate groups, those new to yachting
What Is a Bareboat Yacht Charter?
- You and your group sail and operate the yacht
- Responsibility for route planning, meals, safety
- Freedom to set your own agenda and pace
- Cheaper upfront, but consider added costs (fuel, food, port fees)
- Best for experienced sailors and adventurous friends
Key Decision Factors: Which Matches Your Group?
Group Experience Level & Comfort
- No sailing experience? Choose crewed
- Have sailing certifications? Bareboat is possible
- Think about ages, children, special needs
Budget and Customization
| Charter Type | Typical Cost | What's Included | Extras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crewed | Higher | Crew, meals, cleaning | Alcohol, excursions |
| Bareboat | Lower | Yacht, basic equipment | Food, fuel, skipper (optional) |
- Crewed charters: luxury, one price, less planning
- Bareboat: hands-on, may have surprise costs
Group Size and Dynamics
- Large, mixed-age groups: Benefits from crew support
- Small, experienced groups: Flexible bareboat adventures
- Cabin layout matters—private cabins vs. shared spaces
Practical Takeaways & Applications
- Assess skill level: Who can operate the yacht?
